“We’re excited to introduce something a little different to the Otterbox line-up – in a dimensional sort of way. Our wildest designs are brought to life with the introduction of 3D cases for the iPhone 5 in the sturdy Computer Series” reads Otterbox’s series description. And sure, the design is appealing and easy on the eye, but the Commuter Series D case isn’t the sturdiest in the bunch. In fact it is one of the least protective, but that’s still convincing by Otterbox standards.
Otterbox’s Commuter Series D case for iPhone 5 is 5.19 in x 2.58 – 2.86 in x 0.83 – 1.45 in and 1.41 g - 2.01 g. This is a rubber skin with a plastic frame that enforces the whole construction, providing better impact resistance, while protecting the volume and sleep/wake button. There are two layers, made from shock-absorbing silicone and tough polycarbonate, with silicone plugs that keep ports protected against dust and dirt.
There’s also a screen protector film that comes with the purchase. The $45 Commuter Series D case for iPhone 5 is available in three theme colors (green, teal and pink) and 3D textures (Tropical – Bloom silicone with Peony/Stone polycarbonate, Skull – Ninja Green silicone with Glow/ Gray polycarbonate and Western Flower – Seafoam silicone with Teal/ Mineral polycarbonate). “The Commuter Series is now brought to life in dynamic 3-D design, providing a fresh, cutting-edge experience for the customer that wants to express individually and culture” said OtterBox President and CEO Brian Thomas.
